Garden Gate Inspiration – Making it Lovely

When I was a kid, we had a dog that would escape our yard every chance she got. Each time, she’d be found blocks away. I didn’t have any other dogs to compare her to, so I just assumed that while cats can go outside and find their way back, dogs take off and go. Then we adopted Murray in 2008. And he would stay put! Brandon was like, duh. Dogs do that. And I thought, not in my experience, they don’t! All of this is to say that there is no gate between the front and back yard here. There is an arch and a sense of passage, but no gate. We do have a cast iron fence around the front with a gate that we can close, but there are still means of escape through the adjoining neighbor’s property if one is determined. We thought for sure when we moved here that we would need to add something ASAP for the dog but when it didn’t prove to be a problem, we never got around to it.
